The Apprenticeship training is fully funded by the Skills Funding Agency for 16-18 year olds and for those aged 19+ is partially funded. The main cost to your business is the wages of the apprentice.

In general, apprentices work for at least 30 hours a week. However, the number can be reduced to allow a minimum of 16 working hours, if the length of the Apprenticeship programme is extended.

An apprentice must receive the appropriate minimum wage. However, employers are free to pay above the minimum wage and many do so. This can help in attracting the very best candidates.

AGE grants are available for small to medium sized employers recruiting 16 to 23 year olds, and are granted to assist with the cost of apprentice’s wages.

The £1,500 grant is available to help businesses with less than 1,000 employees take on an apprentice.
